Idea InsightTM Methodology

Idea Integration has created a framework to implement Business Process Management. The Insight balanced approach bridges the gap between organizational strategy, people, and technology in three primary approaches:

Idea first seeks to align organizational goals with process goals, and to identify measures that ensure processes remain aligned. Secondly, Idea strives to align human performance systems and technology enablers with process activities.

Insight Methodology Framework

InsightTM Workshop

Using the Insight framework, Idea offers a hands-on workshop with customers to help navigate the complexities of process discovery. This session includes an initial investigation of your organizational environment and is focused on developing an overarching process map to define the scope of a process improvement initiative. The goals and objectives of the organization and the target process are determined to assist in the definition of an initiative. During the session, Idea’s business analysts’ partner with the client to detail a case for action, process vision, and delicate metrics for a process redesign initiative.

At the end of the workshop, clients receive a strategic process map containing an overview of the current workflow along with recommendations on how to proceed with the customized process redesign effort. Upon request, Idea will create a scoping document for the recommended effort.

Strategic Assessment

Utilizing Idea’s Insight methodology, we provide a framework for approaching analytical and process-centric engagements involving three major components of activity – Analyze, Change, and Measure. The major objectives of the framework are to reduce the complexity of the target process and solution, organize tasks and activities, create structure for assessing and prioritizing the business and technical environments, and provide a common format for the resulting deliverables.

As a core engagement offered by Idea’s Business Consulting practice, the Strategic Assessment project provides a multi-faceted opportunity to provide the customer organization with a genuine understanding of the current environment from a functional and technical perspective. Similarly, through the elicitation, analysis and design of appropriate recommendations captured in our assessment report, Idea’s consulting team is able to identify a practical roadmap to move the organization from the as-is state toward the to-be state. Typically, there are five categories that influence the design and execution of a successful process. Idea’s experience suggests that more often than not, the emphasis is concentrated on the first two areas detailed below.

Workflow design

Idea defines a process as a complete coordinated sequence of steps that is initiated by an event, transforms information, materials, or business commitments, and produces an output. Managing the flow of the thread of activities determines a company’s speed, agility, and quality of execution. Continually renewing and optimizing processes ultimately determines the success of organizations.

Technology

Technology includes the information systems that support and automate the target process. Information systems can serve as an "actor" within the process and are typically documented in the Use Cases as such.

Organizational behavior

Business processes must consider the affect that an organization’s motivational and measurement policies may have on the expected or optimal behavior of the business process. The future state process must address this factor to ensure that the process objective can be met within the applicable constraints.

Human Resources

For optimal performance of the business process, an organization must have the right people in the right roles. This factor encompasses the intellectual property, training, experience, and organizational structure of the personnel.

Organizational Constraints

Internal or external constraints on the organizations business processes are considered as a portion of the environment that a target process operates within. These factors provide additional boundaries that the future state process must accommodate in achieving the company’s strategy.
